We love kids!
Kids can be very fearful of the unknown, especially when it comes to the dentist. At Wave Dental, we do our best to ensure our youngest patients are comfortable, happy and excited about their oral health care. Whether it’s allowing children to take a fun ride in the dental chair or showing them the tools we use and answering a million questions, we do everything we can to make your children feel relaxed and realize that there is really nothing to be afraid of with no need to venture to a pediatric specialist office.
Does your child need a little help to get through their appointments? No problem! We are happy to provide patients with nitrous oxide laughing gas treatment to help patients relax and ensure their comfort throughout their appointment. Gas not enough? Dr. Henry Wong is pleased to offer oral sedation right in our Port Perry office to keep kids comfortable and keep their smiles healthy.
When should you take your children to the dentist?
Excellent oral health starts at a very young age and right at home! Infants developing their first teeth can benefit greatly from mom or dad gently cleaning their new tiny teeth with a soft washcloth covered finger.
As children grow, along with brushing for 2 minutes, twice a day and flossing at home, professional oral health care begins to play an important role in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Kids as young as two can benefit from a visit to our dental office once every 6 months to ensure proper brushing, flossing and rinsing techniques are being used, and areas of concern are monitored closely to prevent the growth of cavities and decay that can lead to ongoing issues with your child’s oral health.
Children start to lose their first set of teeth around age six. This is right around the same time that many children develop their independent oral health skills and proper oral habits and when children’s teeth and jaws begin to develop in to their adult forms. Proper teeth cleaning and maintenance, including regular visits to our office for deep cleaning and checks with the dentist for decay and orthodontic assessment, are important to ensure your child’s permanent teeth grow in healthy and their jaws develop to their potential. Remember, early introduction to proper oral health regimes will help children develop life-long oral health skills.

Practicing good dental hygiene is essential for maintaining your oral health. In addition to proper brushing, flossing and rinsing at home, regular professional deep cleaning and examinations are essential to maintaining your great oral health. When it comes to choosing a dental clinic, you can depend on Wave Dental to provide complete and thorough teeth cleaning services.

How Long Is the Dental Appointment?
At Wave Dental, each patient receives personalized treatment based on their unique oral health situation and goals. As such, the length of each appointment can vary based on a variety of factors such as:
The presence of gum disease
The length of time between your last cleaning
Irregular dental cleanings
Dry mouth due to medication or mouth breathing
Generally speaking, a typical child’s cleaning takes about 30 minutes. A typical adult cleaning is usually about an hour long. If you suffer from any of the above factors, or if it’s been a long time since your last cleaning, multiple cleaning appointments may be required to get your mouth back to optimal oral health.
Do you have cavity in your teeth? Don’t worry, no one will ever know! Visit Wave Dental for all your restorative dentistry needs including composite white dental fillings. Our experienced dentists will restore your smile again!
Nervous about your procedure? Laughing gas is a safe and effective sedative that will keep you relaxed throughout the procedure and allow you to drive home immediately after. We also offer more involved sedation options at our Port Perry location. Interested in learning more? Contact us today to find out how sedation dentistry can make your visits comfortable and relaxed.
Make Your Cavity-Infected Teeth Look as Good as New
When you come to our dental office to repair a cavity, our highly skilled dentists will remove the decay and carefully clean and prepare the tooth to receive the filling. A series of composite resin filling materials will be placed and cured with a UV light and shaped using a series of dental burs. At Wave Dental, we have over 10 shades of white-coloured filling material to ensure that your fillings will be virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
Get in touch with us today to have your teeth assessed to find out how white-coloured fillings can change your smile.
Have you had a root canal? Do you have a missing tooth? A large or broken filling? Has an accident left your teeth chipped, damaged or missing? Good news! A beautiful, complete smile is just a visit or two away! Crowns and bridges are great options for restoring smiles, replacing or protecting missing or damaged teeth. Visit Wave Dental for dental crowns and bridges to complete and protect your smile and allow you to speak and eat comfortably and confidently with virtually indistinguishable restorations.
Understanding Crowns and Bridges
In cases where a tooth has large areas of decay or old defective fillings, or when a tooth has been weakened due to the need for a root canal treatment, a dental crown or tooth cap is recommended. A crown is a protective cap or cover that fits over the top of a prepared tooth. They are usually tooth coloured (though there are a variety of material options) and contoured to match the rest of your dentition.
At your first visit, the tooth is cleaned, the decay is removed, and the tooth is shaped and prepared. A temporary crown is placed while the final restoration is prepared at a laboratory. At a second appointment, the final restoration is placed. A dental crown may last up to 10 years or even more depending on your oral health.
Bridges are commonly used to replace missing teeth, especially in cases where adjacent teeth may also be in need of repair. They are essentially two or more dental crowns (called retainers) with one or more artificial teeth (called pontics) between them. Once secured in to place, bridges function much like your regular dentition, though they do require regular cleaning to ensure they will last you a long time.
A tooth that is painful, swollen or throbbing may have an infection. If this is the case, you may require a root canal treatment. Wave Dental is pleased to offer many root canal treatments without the need to visit an endodontist.
In order to get started, schedule an appointment with us to have the tooth examined and we will determine whether a root canal is the best treatment for you. In many cases, a pre-treatment antibiotic may be prescribed to treat the infection and keep you comfortable. An antibiotic will provide temporary relief while you wait for treatment.
During the root canal, the infected nerve tissues will be removed. The tooth will be filled with special material to help strengthen the tooth and it will be built back up with a filling. In many cases, the remaining tooth is not strong enough to chew with just a filling. To avoid the tooth breaking in the future, a dental crown or cap may be recommended.
Root canal treatments are not guaranteed, but they are your best option to save an otherwise hopeless tooth. The only alternative treatment to a root canal is an extraction.

Grinding, gnashing or clenching your teeth is commonly associated with anxiety and stress and can make getting a good night’s sleep extremely difficult. Do you suffer from headaches, sore jaw or facial muscles? Having a hard time getting enough restful sleep to get through the day? Contact our office today to find out how you could benefit from TMJ therapy.
What Is TMJ?
The TMJ or temporomandibular joint connects our jaws to the rest of our skull. TMJ disorders are caused by a variety of issues, but the most common are stress, anxiety and undiagnosed sleep disorders. TMJ discomfort occurs when the constant grinding, clenching or gnashing of your teeth become regular habits. These habits are especially difficult to break because they tend to happen at night when you’re sleeping and cannot make a concerted effort to stop. Left untreated, TMJ disorders can give you headaches, leave you tired and sore and cause damage to your teeth like cracks, broken teeth, broken fillings, sensitivity due to exposed dentin and could even result in tooth loss.
To get more information about TMJ disorders and how we can help you get a better, more restful sleep, please contact us at Wave Dental.
Tooth pain always happens at the worst times. Waiting for treatment while in pain doesn’t help. At Wave Dental, we understand that a dental emergency needs to be handled quickly and efficiently. That’s why we are proud to provide emergency dental care often on the same day. If you are having a dental emergency, please give us a call. Our receptionist will take as much information as she can so that we can better assist you and get you back to feeling like yourself.
Let Wave Dental’s team of highly experienced dental care professionals get you comfortable again. Whether it’s a broken tooth, sudden swelling and pain or a dental trauma or injury, we will get you back to normal as quickly as possible, often the same day. Your comfort is our top priority.
Although we believe prevention of tooth loss is key, sometimes when teeth become infected, lose or have nerve damage, your only treatment option may be extraction. We are pleased to offer simple, complicated and even surgical extractions right here in our office without the need for a referral to a specialist oral surgeon. Concerned about the possibility of extraction? Talk to our team of skilled dental professionals to schedule your assessment today.
